12 Great Ideas for New Year party

12 great ideas for new year party by Adore Re Mi

I love looking through party ideas on Pinterest, especially when bloggers make such an effort to make their photographic tutorials look good. I have sourced 12 great ideas for NEW YEAR party from Pinterest from decoration to make-up, for adults and kids. You can use many of these ideas for other special occasions too.
Hope you get some inspiration here for your party or BBQ.

NY party favors New Year party favours bags can be filled with inspirational quotes, Panadol, mints (bad alcohol breath is blah), or sweets to increase the energy for 10 min then crash on the sofa. For your best friends, earrings, mints, Panadol and a lotto scratchy to share of course.  Source: Oh So Beautiful Paper with printable gift tags.

NY streamers You can't pass a Martha Stewart creation from her website. I like this one, it's simple and uncluttered, great for last-minute preparations. The best part is the backdrop streamers. You can buy all materials from an art/craft store. Tip: Easier option is to use large round stickers (colour is your choice) and string. Stick two round stickers together with the string through the middle and hang from the ceiling or wall.

Good fortune favors Even if you don't eat the cookie (I always do), we all still love to crack a fortune cookie and read our fortune messages out to each other. So these New Year party favours are great and easy to assemble. You can buy fortune cookies from your supermarkets and some even sell clear bags in the party isle, otherwise buy the bags from the craft shop. Source: No Biggie.net with printable gift tags.

NY eve-Midnight Clocks Another from No Biggie, New Year Eve- Midnight Clocks. These are printable and you can use the clocks as cupcake toppers, table decorations, wall garland or attached to the party favour bags.

Champagne EtoileIt's time for a drink! I love a simple and delicious recipe . This one is from Coco + Kelley Lovely photographs too.  For more champagne cocktail recipes click here

champagne shimmer I always love to dress up for New Year parties. If it is a casual one, you can still add some glamour to your outfit with a soft shimmery eye make up. The colour shown above is great for dark eyes. Tip: Use a coppery colour if you have lighter coloured eyes, especially blue as it makes the colour stand out. Source: Lulu's How-To   NY party outfit This Polyvore outfit is great for everyone. You just adjust it to your size and body shape. If you are voluptuous, wear comfortable tight jeans with a long glittery top. If you don't like denim, wear a skirt or lighter coloured pants; if you don't like it, wear a LBD with a sequined jacket. As for the shoes, no limey the heels? Wear sparkly sandals or flats.

NY back drop As I inspected this picture closely, I noticed Christmas baubles being used. Love it! Use thick ribbon from the $2 shop, hook the baubles on and stick it to your wall. Tip: If you don't have brown wrapping paper to write a message on, use any left over wrapping paper, turn it over to the blank side and write your message. A great last-minute idea! Found on Lowes.com

Healthier option So you're not into sparkles and glittery things. Add some colour then. Here is a great idea for the healthy party people, in fact I prefer to crunch on this than chips. To see the whole table display, click on Pop Sugar I used this idea for my daughter's 2nd birthday and it was eaten within minutes. Tip: Display an assortment of veggies in a shot glass (or plastic found on your supermarket party isle) as individual serves.

Bow napkinsSimple and easy bow napkins wrapped around the cutlery. You can use wash/craft tape or ribbon as shown in the above picture. Found in Pinterest.

NY Eve kids treatsWe can't forget the kids! For the bigger kids who can stay up late, a milk and cookies toast in a fancy glass makes them feel special.

SquishycutedesignsWant to have 5 minutes without the kids (because their concentration span is short!) Download colouring pages from Squishy Cute Designs. So many to choose from.

Best Apple Crumble recipe

The best Apple Crumble recipe by Adore Re Mi

Why is it the BEST apple crumble recipe? It's because the crumble is easy and simply to make and oh so delicious! I had always made the crumble to the original recipe and by adding flour meant you had to cook it in the oven for an extra 30-40 minutes. Who has time to heat/cook it again when the apples are already hot and the crumble can be eaten at room temperature! Also I wanted to tweak it with new ingredients to add more taste and crunch.

What!? I hear the traditional cooks say. All the ingredients in the crumble can be eaten uncooked. I promise you will love the smell of the mixture when you combine it and it's so much better when you try it. Now, I'm not discouraging this dessert dish to not be cooked. In the cooler seasons eating the crumble cooked in the oven or under the grill is just as good, but in the cooler months you can eat it uncooked sprinkled on top. It's your choice!

So let's begin...

Use 4-6 green apples as it has a tartier taste to match the sweetness of the crumble. If you have only red apples, add extra lemon rind. Or not if you love extra sweetness. No apples? use pears. Run out of sugar? use honey or maple syrup.

In Australia we love our Weetbix and Nutri-grain, in America your Nutri-grain are oat bars. You can substitute this with Cheerios Honey  or use Cheerios without the sugar.

Best to have the butter at room temperature. Cut it in to small cubes to soften quicker.

Mix  the dry ingredients with your fingertips,

  • 1 cup crushed cereal
  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 to 1 cup cup quick oats, not rolled
  • 1/4 cup choppped almonds
  • 1/2 t cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup brown sugar to taste
  • 50g-80g  butter at room temperature (soften), add more/less until crumble sticks together.

All measurements can be altered according to personal taste.

For the health conscious, you can alternate:

  • brown sugar to organic maple syrup, stevia or honey, even in the saucepan for the stewed apples.
  • add dates
  • along with the almonds, add walnuts, hazelnuts and/or LSA mix or almond meal.
  • gluten free recipe? click here
  • lessen the sugar quantity
  • substitute the sweeter cereal to a sugar-free or low in sugar such as Cheerios, I read on the site it contains 1g of sugar
  • serve it with yoghurt or coconut cream or ice-cream.

This is when we get excited, the eating! Serve it on it's own or with cream or ice-cream. For extra naughtiness, add pieces of good quality chocolate in the apples (not while in the saucepan, the ramekins).

I wish you can smell this delicious desert now. Enjoy my friends!

Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday: Year 1990.

I'm still continuing the Aussie Flashback Friday from last week. One band wasn't enough, I wanted to add Australia's most popular pint size export- Kylie Minogue.

As a kid I was a Neighbours fan (Aussie TV show), when Charlene and Scott were just friends. Then their wedding became the most watched episode on TV in the 80's.
She left the show to become a singer like her younger sister Danni (my favourite Young Talent Time member, so wanted her and Vinnie to get together!) It was unfortunate for Danni who never succeeded as far as her sister; but after the 'Loco-Motion' song went to number one, Kylie's success began. O.k so we Aussies were a little rough with her, nicknaming her 'the singing budgie', she proved to us with much of her success in the U.K and dating Michael from INXS, she wasn't going to fade and still performing better than ever.

So today I chose a song I loved and the rest of the gay community too. My favourite album was Impossible Princess but I can't help and boogie to her old school pop.

Guest blogger: My2morrows

I have a wonderful guest blogger to introduce- Shannon from My2morrows.

My2morrows

I first met Shannon at the Clever Cookie School of Blog this September and got to meet personally at our blog graduation high noon tea. We connected straight away and even though we didn't chat as much as we wanted on the day, we stayed on as friends through the blog community.

About Shannon: She is a proud wife to an inspiring man and mum to two adorable kids. Loves tea (cheers to that) and is an animal lover. She writes about life, family and music. I love her Love Want Need lists.

Shannon from My2morrows blog

I asked Shannon some questions ...

1. What inspired you to start your blog journey?

I started getting into blogs firstly as a reader, 5 years ago while I was on maternity leave with my first bub and loved the sense of community they created. My inspiration to start my own blog was the talented Chantelle from Fat mum slim via her ‘Letters to Lacey’. http://fatmumslim.com.au/category/letters-to-lacey/

I’d read them in tears, they were so beautifully written and I loved the idea of having those precious memories documented. It took me 5 years to work up the courage to actually publish my first post. Life happened, 2 babies in 2 years went by in the blink of an eye, and it was only after signing up to the Clever Cookie School of Blog after a few wines one night that I actually got serious about it and thought right… now is the time! my2morrows is a mix of kid stuff, my ‘love want need’ series and just life.

2. What's your favourite post that you've written?

Probably this one: The Circle of Life Part 2: Maddi's Daddy. Although it was hard to write, it was kinda healing too! http://my2morrows.com/2014/11/02/the-circle-of-life-part-2-maddis-daddy-2/
3. Give us a little about your background?

I'm a country girl in a city world! I was born and raised in coastal country South Australia and moved to the big smoke (Adelaide) after high school to study Marketing at Uni. After graduating I spent the year 2000 in the USA, travelling and working at a summer camp in Maine teaching sailing and kayaking. When I returned to Australia I moved to Sydney, got a job, met my now hubby and have called Sydney home for 14 years now. I've worked in a few different marketing/sponsorship/media roles, mostly in the Corporate world and these days I work part time in Marketing, spending as much time as I can with my2morrows.

4. What are three things you cannot live without?

My Family

Avocados

Organic Paw Paw ointment
5. Five famous people you would invite for dinner (deceased or/and alive).

Prince William & Kate - they just seem so down to earth and lovely

Prince Harry - cause he's the fun one!

Ryan Gosling - no words required

Dave Grohl from The Foo Fighters - cause I love a good Rock N Roll story and I'm sure he'd have a few
6. Most inspiring person.

My husband. He has a vision condition and is actually legally blind, yet he has such a positive outlook on life and works so hard for his family.

7. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?

Besides beautiful Sydney... probably Hawaii. There's just something about the Aloha way of life.

8. What is one tradition your family has at Christmas?

We LOVE Christmas and every year my husband and I watch as many Christmas Movies as we can in the lead up to the big day. Our faves would be The classic Miracle on 34th Street, Love Actually and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.

Now that we have little people, we've just started the Elf on the Shelf family tradition... so much fun. Our Elf, ‘Jingle’ is getting up to all kinds of mischief. We only have such a limited time until the kids find out the truth about Santa so we're making the most of this magical time!

9. What's on your Christmas list?

Oh so many things... just see my ‘Love Want Need’ series http://my2morrows.com/category/love-want-need/ but if I had to pick one thing... I'd say The Olympus OMD-D EM10 camera. It had me at 'built in Wifi'.

Shannon I totally agree on the Olympus camera. It's a want list for me too! And I'm a big fan of Dave Grohl too.

Make sure you pop over and check out My2morrows. Check out her Facebook page too.
