12 Great Ideas for New Year party

12 great ideas for new year party by Adore Re Mi

I love looking through party ideas on Pinterest, especially when bloggers make such an effort to make their photographic tutorials look good. I have sourced 12 great ideas for NEW YEAR party from Pinterest from decoration to make-up, for adults and kids. You can use many of these ideas for other special occasions too.
Hope you get some inspiration here for your party or BBQ.

NY party favors New Year party favours bags can be filled with inspirational quotes, Panadol, mints (bad alcohol breath is blah), or sweets to increase the energy for 10 min then crash on the sofa. For your best friends, earrings, mints, Panadol and a lotto scratchy to share of course.  Source: Oh So Beautiful Paper with printable gift tags.

NY streamers You can't pass a Martha Stewart creation from her website. I like this one, it's simple and uncluttered, great for last-minute preparations. The best part is the backdrop streamers. You can buy all materials from an art/craft store. Tip: Easier option is to use large round stickers (colour is your choice) and string. Stick two round stickers together with the string through the middle and hang from the ceiling or wall.

Good fortune favors Even if you don't eat the cookie (I always do), we all still love to crack a fortune cookie and read our fortune messages out to each other. So these New Year party favours are great and easy to assemble. You can buy fortune cookies from your supermarkets and some even sell clear bags in the party isle, otherwise buy the bags from the craft shop. Source: No Biggie.net with printable gift tags.

NY eve-Midnight Clocks Another from No Biggie, New Year Eve- Midnight Clocks. These are printable and you can use the clocks as cupcake toppers, table decorations, wall garland or attached to the party favour bags.

Champagne EtoileIt's time for a drink! I love a simple and delicious recipe . This one is from Coco + Kelley Lovely photographs too.  For more champagne cocktail recipes click here

champagne shimmer I always love to dress up for New Year parties. If it is a casual one, you can still add some glamour to your outfit with a soft shimmery eye make up. The colour shown above is great for dark eyes. Tip: Use a coppery colour if you have lighter coloured eyes, especially blue as it makes the colour stand out. Source: Lulu's How-To   NY party outfit This Polyvore outfit is great for everyone. You just adjust it to your size and body shape. If you are voluptuous, wear comfortable tight jeans with a long glittery top. If you don't like denim, wear a skirt or lighter coloured pants; if you don't like it, wear a LBD with a sequined jacket. As for the shoes, no limey the heels? Wear sparkly sandals or flats.

NY back drop As I inspected this picture closely, I noticed Christmas baubles being used. Love it! Use thick ribbon from the $2 shop, hook the baubles on and stick it to your wall. Tip: If you don't have brown wrapping paper to write a message on, use any left over wrapping paper, turn it over to the blank side and write your message. A great last-minute idea! Found on Lowes.com

Healthier option So you're not into sparkles and glittery things. Add some colour then. Here is a great idea for the healthy party people, in fact I prefer to crunch on this than chips. To see the whole table display, click on Pop Sugar I used this idea for my daughter's 2nd birthday and it was eaten within minutes. Tip: Display an assortment of veggies in a shot glass (or plastic found on your supermarket party isle) as individual serves.

Bow napkinsSimple and easy bow napkins wrapped around the cutlery. You can use wash/craft tape or ribbon as shown in the above picture. Found in Pinterest.

NY Eve kids treatsWe can't forget the kids! For the bigger kids who can stay up late, a milk and cookies toast in a fancy glass makes them feel special.

SquishycutedesignsWant to have 5 minutes without the kids (because their concentration span is short!) Download colouring pages from Squishy Cute Designs. So many to choose from.

To all my followers and visitors from around the world, have a wonderful start to 2015. I can't believe I'm typing 2-0-1-5!
Don't forget to call friends or family members who may not be amongst friends or family. While we are celebrating, some are alone this time of year and a phone call is what it takes to make them smile.
I have lots planned for ADORE RE MI in the new year: my pregnancy, motherhood advice post from other mums, birthdays, inspirational ideas and of course my favourite- Flashback Friday. I leave you with this final thought...

Best Apple Crumble recipe

The best Apple Crumble recipe by Adore Re Mi

Why is it the BEST apple crumble recipe? It's because the crumble is easy and simply to make and oh so delicious! I had always made the crumble to the original recipe and by adding flour meant you had to cook it in the oven for an extra 30-40 minutes. Who has time to heat/cook it again when the apples are already hot and the crumble can be eaten at room temperature! Also I wanted to tweak it with new ingredients to add more taste and crunch.

What!? I hear the traditional cooks say. All the ingredients in the crumble can be eaten uncooked. I promise you will love the smell of the mixture when you combine it and it's so much better when you try it. Now, I'm not discouraging this dessert dish to not be cooked. In the cooler seasons eating the crumble cooked in the oven or under the grill is just as good, but in the cooler months you can eat it uncooked sprinkled on top. It's your choice!

So let's begin...

Use 4-6 green apples as it has a tartier taste to match the sweetness of the crumble. If you have only red apples, add extra lemon rind. Or not if you love extra sweetness. No apples? use pears. Run out of sugar? use honey or maple syrup.

The best Apple Crumble crumble by Adore Re Mi

In Australia we love our Weetbix and Nutri-grain, in America your Nutri-grain are oat bars. You can substitute this with Cheerios Honey  or use Cheerios without the sugar.

Best to have the butter at room temperature. Cut it in to small cubes to soften quicker.

The best Apple Crumble by Adore Re Mi

Mix  the dry ingredients with your fingertips,

  • 1 cup crushed cereal
  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 to 1 cup cup quick oats, not rolled
  • 1/4 cup choppped almonds
  • 1/2 t cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup brown sugar to taste
  • 50g-80g  butter at room temperature (soften), add more/less until crumble sticks together.

All measurements can be altered according to personal taste.

The best Apple Crumble by Adore Re Mi

For the health conscious, you can alternate:

  • brown sugar to organic maple syrup, stevia or honey, even in the saucepan for the stewed apples.
  • add dates
  • along with the almonds, add walnuts, hazelnuts and/or LSA mix or almond meal.
  • gluten free recipe? click here
  • lessen the sugar quantity
  • substitute the sweeter cereal to a sugar-free or low in sugar such as Cheerios, I read on the site it contains 1g of sugar
  • serve it with yoghurt or coconut cream or ice-cream.

This is when we get excited, the eating! Serve it on it's own or with cream or ice-cream. For extra naughtiness, add pieces of good quality chocolate in the apples (not while in the saucepan, the ramekins).

I wish you can smell this delicious desert now. Enjoy my friends!

Baby Shower Ideas

Baby Shower Ideas by Adore Re Mi

Two different BABY SHOWER IDEAS with a different set up and games to play, but there are traditions you keep like finger sandwiches, the baby shower cake. Not to forget a refreshing drink and tea or coffee.

This first idea is fresh, modern and minimalist. You can't go wrong keeping it simple and adding unique touches like the heart shape watermelon, homemade cake and cupcakes. The girls who organised this baby shower did a wonderful job. The friend who baked a vanilla and raspberry cake did an amazing job (anyone who bakes cakes knows how tricky it can be) and  it was delicious, finishing off with a hot coffee or tea!

The games played were 'guess how many mini marshmallows are in the big baby bottle' & a race to think of girls names from A to Z & lastly 'who could guess the cheapest to expensive baby list'.

The day finished off wonderfully and everyone enjoyed themselves, the ones who stayed on to help clean had extra cake and cupcakes, well at least I did!

Congrats to my sister-in-law who is due late January, cannot wait to meet your little princess.

Second baby shower is a nesting bird vintage theme. Tables filled with vintage inspired decoration, metallic bird cage and paper butterflies.

The kitchen was filled with old vintage cups, ready for tea to be poured in for a cuppa with a scone. The butterflies were an idea from grand-nana who passed away since, always crafting away.

Home-made scones, cookies, butterfly cupcakes and finger sandwiches filled the table.

The courtyard was decorated with a mural made painted on packing paper, inspired by Australian artist Thea Proctor. The lanterns are much easier to ensemble and hung with fishing wire.

Creative Baby Announcements

Creative baby announcements by Adore Re Mi

When I was pregnant with my first child, I decided on a easy and most popular way to announce my exciting news. I uploaded my baby scan picture, added a few words like 'yes this is mine/ours!' and press post. And like every mum the thrill of sharing the news to your family and friends is heart warming.

3 years later and I am pregnant with my second. I didn't want to announce my baby news until I was in my second trimester, I felt it was the safest time to tell the news. It took me a while to accept my second pregnancy as I had a rough start to the year having 2 miscarriages (I will write my personal story to share with you soon). When my bump started showing, I began to feel more connected, excited and creative again.

So once my happy vibe slowly came back, I wanted to do a creative baby announcement to share with all my friends and family, using my 'big girl' daughter as the announcer. And here is the result:

baby announcementMy daughter isn't a camera poser and when she is, my camera goes crazy, snapping away at her. During the day at Sculpture by the Sea, I took advantage, taking photos of Miss 3 and hoped one of the pictures can be used as the one. And to my surprise, this photo looked super hero-ish.

Luckily Picmonkey- a great site to jazz up your photos, designs, invitations etc, had a superhero theme and I played with the theme until I was happy.

So I got myself thinking what other baby announcements can be created without spending a cent and look over flashy. Personally I like the modern, fresh, not too busy designs where the photo tells the story like this one and that one.

So I stayed on Picmonkey a little longer and designed the following, NOT to sell but to give you some ideas and inspirations using emotions like adoration/love; amazement; acceptance; unhappiness/non-accepting. Guess which emotion fits to each photo...

baby announcement 3

baby announcement 5

And lastly, when the baby arrives and you want to do something different, baby shoes are the way to go to melt EVERYONE's hearts, like fluffy cute animals.baby announcement 4

I've kept all photos basic and simple, a starting point to create your own. Have fun or suggest this post to a friend or family who is stuck for ideas... blog signature
